Silicon seems like a small company – would my organisation be safer dealing with a large Multinational supplier?
Not at all. In fact, Silicon has been building and selling PCs since 1991, longer than some MNC’s. During that time we have refined and tuned our processes and procedures to create a hardware production environment that is regarded as the best in New Zealand. While we may not sell as many units, we take pride in the fact that we offer a more customised hardware procurement experience, a greater level of relationship building. Dealing with Silicon means that our customers never have to endure sub-standard levels of service comprised of automated offshore call centres, being put in “priority queues, or having to quote endless reference numbers – things that are often typical from larger MNCs. We have proven time and time again that often, smaller is better.
Is Silicon just a hardware manufacturer, or an IT solutions provider?
Although Silicon’s beginnings stem from being a manufacturer of PCs, we have developed over the last 18 years into a provider of solutions – incorporating hardware, service, consulting and engineering work of the highest calibre. Our aim is to provide the flexibility to contribute to whichever aspects of our customers IT strategies required, whether it be simply hardware provision or complete outsourcing of their IT function, in a proactive fashion, sharing as much industry knowledge as we can along the way.
Computer hardware seems all the same to me these days – why should I choose a Silicon hardware over name brand hardware?
When you compete in the space that we do, you have to do things extraordinarily well to remain competitive. To us, this means building PC, server and storage hardware of the highest quality. Often, this is the difference between getting 2 years use out of a PC, and getting 4 years use. A PC lasting 4 years obviously has a much lower total cost of ownership, and a higher productivity output, meaning better results for your business. Silicon prides itself on consistently producing hardware that performs faster than our competitors.
What is the benefit in buying locally manufactured hardware over hardware assembled overseas?
There are many benefits both for the New Zealand IT industry, and to customers who support New Zealand businesses. Building hardware locally means that the knowledge base that offers support to your organisation is closer at hand, and communication channels are far more streamlined. Because we build all our hardware here in Petone from the ground up, we develop an extremely intimate knowledge of our hardware, which can’t be matched through MNC reseller channels.
Does Silicon have an Automated call centre, or can I talk to a real person?
When you call Silicon, your phone call will be answered in person within 2 rings. This is a standard maintained in accordance with our ISO9001 certification. We do not have automated call centres or phone systems, and we don’t plan on changing that.
Why is hardware from Silicon sometimes more expensive than other international brands?
As with any product, sometimes the best does cost a little more. Whilst we promise to offer the most competitive pricing we can, we don’t believe in compromising the quality of hardware or service that we offer in order to sell at a cheaper price. We don’t subscribe to the “loss leader” approach of selling the bare minimum at a low price only to charge extra for recommended upgrades and accessories. We are confident that a superior product will provide better value for money, and a lower total cost of ownership over the life of that product.
Can Silicon support my organisation nationwide?
Absolutely. In fact, Silicon supports a network of hardware located nationally and intrnationally, through our service partners. Where necessary, we use approved 3rd party service partners to provide on-site support.
I want to minimise my orgnisations IT Capital expenditure. Does Silicon have financing options?
